Finally, the last Wings Short Film that was released is #7, AWAKE, also known as Jin’s solo song in the album. The 7th short film basically shows us how the entire story of the other members’ experiences (his inner Demians) revolve around the items that he had around him in his home, as well as his personal experience. In reality, the story that we see from the start is actually Jin’s experience.
The narration that RM reads, “The birds fights its way out of the egg, the egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God’s name was Abraxas.” From the narration, Jin is a bird that breaks out from the cage.
In the first scene, Jin was seen taking out his earpiece. It was like he was removing the thing that allows him to hear his Demians.
Then, we can see him sitting at the dining table with an apple on the table in front of him. The apple represents the part of Jin which is Jimin. He picks up the apple, but he doesn’t bite into it like Jimin (his old self) did in the past. Then, Jin decides drop the apple because he wants to move forward and not to continue his painful events from the past.
Jin picked up six petals of a white lily and put them on the floor. He also did this in the I Need U music video, as well. The six petals represent his alter egos, or his past forms, which have been portrayed by the other members. Jin start to burn the flower, which means the end of other members’ journey. And for Jin, himself, he’s the last form that represents the last phase of Sinclair life.
But you can see that Jin’s face when he’s burning the six petals that he still considers them as precious things. He cradles them delicately before destroying them.
He then walks out of the room and walks towards a corridor or hallway, and we can see the walls are decorated by images of Abraxas. This mean that Jin (Sinclair) was completely surrounded by his God, like in the Demian novel, which says, ‘The bird must fly to God’.
Further down the hallway, he sees a painting of a sparrowhawk. In the novel, Sinclair paints a sparrowhawk and mails it to Demian. Because both Demian and Eva love the painting so much, they even frame it and hang it up on their house.
So, the painting thing was supposed to be at Demian and Eva’s house, but in this Short Film we can see it was in Jin’s (Sinclair) home. It tells us over and over again that all those three people above are really only one person.
After the hallway scene, Jin walks out of the frame and the camera retreats back to where the six petals are. In the place of the burnt petals, we now see six photographs that represent each of the BTS members which are:
Mirror – RM
The painting of a mother with her baby – J-Hope
Piano – Suga
Apple – Jimin
Sparrowhawk painting – Jungkook
Scratched door – V

That’s all for the Demian Theory behind the Wings Short Films, so what do you think about it? It’s impressive that BTS had prepared this kind of storyline for us, pretty complicated and unexpected. But at least we can learn more about literature novel from BTS, or maybe they want us to read more books rather than just playing around with our phone?? Well, who knows, right?
