The narration in the beginning of the fifth short film was, “The other realm. However, overlapping half our house was completely different. A loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows, horses sinking to their death. Tales of robberies, murders and suicide.” RM is Pistorius, the mentor of Sinclair (V). He is smart, philosophical, and a leader, but also a drunkard. This role was perfectly portrayed by RM in all the HYYH series so far.
RM keep doing the nasty things when he drinks, and we often see him drinking alcohol or coke. He likes to hang out with V, like going out to do graffiti together, and both of them get arrested together. In I Need U, they often walk and sit together so it was obvious how close Pistorius with Sinclair are.
In the Reflection short film, RM was tattooing a bird picture on his hands. Someone also sent him a picture of a sparrow and he decided to ink himself. The someone who sent the picture to him is Sinclair. Jungkook was also holding the same letter, he even puts it on an envelope. This give us a hint that the letter RM (Pistorius) received was from Jungkook.
So why was RM was poisoning himself? The reason is that when Sinclair leaves Pistorius, he is heartbroken. He want to gave Sinclair a great life, but at the same time he is depressed and wants something good for himself too. That’s why, in this desperation, he tries to ink the bird tattoo on his skin and tries to become Abraxas, himself. RM even burns the letter and drinks up the ashes.
There is also a scene where RM was surrounded by mirrors, and then those mirrors started to shatter into pieces. The meaning is that RM (Pistorius) is transitioning to the next phase of his life and is no longer to be a part of Sinclair’s life.
We have seen this phone booth thing since the Run music video. It shows that he’s ready to help Sinclair out, but when Sinclair (V) finally calls for his help, he’s unable to receive the call. This was meant as the end of his role in Sinclair’s life.
As already mentioned, in Jimin’s video analysis, J-Hope is Demian. He’s also Eva, as well. We also keep repeating that Demian and Sinclair aren’t two different people. Sinclair thinks Demian is a different person, but then he realizes that he (Demian) is just his own subconscious. The same is true with Eva (she is Demian’s mother and Sinclair’s first love).
Narration by RM which says, “With a face that resembled her son’s, timeless, ageless and full of inner strength, the beatuful woman smile with dignity. Her gaze was fulfillment, her greeting is a homecoming. Silently, i stretched my hands out to her.” These are the words that Sinclair ised on the book to describe Frau Eva.
J-Hope’s circle also had the word ‘Eva’, as well. So we all can conclude that J-Hope (Sinclair) represents both Demian and Eva.
In the Short Film, there is a doctor who writes something on his papers. He writes that J-Hope was diagnosed to had Munchhausen’s Syndrome. It’s a psychiatric disorder where someone will make up events or illnesses to draw sympathy for himself. In the novel, Sinclair makes up an event like stealing apples in order to make people notice him.
In the next scene, we can see J-Hope sitting in a padded room, with no expression and emotion. Then capsules start to pour from both sides of the room, and he then picked one up and swallowed it. That’s where everything changed.
The room turned dark, with a glow in the dark color painting. There are patterns that were drawn on the walls, which look like Abraxas, and there is a repeated image of an eye everywhere; there is also a stain of color on J-Hope’s body. He sees a vision/flashback of Jimin and V. After trying to get out of the room and the mess he’s in, the next moment J-Hope was collapsed.
When J-Hope wakes up, he finds himself in the same room, but the difference is that it feels like morning, because there is a light that came in through the room (the light was a symbol for enlightenment). He walks out of the room, which looks like a metal container, and sees the painting that Jimin saw before.
Leaving the room represents ‘The bird breaking out of its cage. The world is the cage’. When J-hope walks out of the room, his expression becomes happy and content.
For the painting, we can see blue scenery, just like the one that Jimin saw. And according to the surroundings, Jimin and J-hope were in the same room. But where is Jimin?? Jimin is dead. He was Sinclair once, and now J-Hope is the new Sinclair. He looks at the painting as if he knows that it’s a facade, J-Hope isn’t interested in it anymore. The memory of his past self are putting a lie and flashes through his mind for a mere of second.
After that, J-Hope eats a Snickers bar. In the novel, whenever Sinclair was depressed/sad or did anything worthy, his mother rewarded him by giving something sweet (like chocolate) before going to bed. Now J-Hope (Sinclair) has done something worthy, he broke out from the cage, even though he still looks in pain. That’s the reason why he eats the Snickers.
When J-Hope walks away, we all see that the painting transforms into another picture, showing a mother and her child. This can mean that J-Hope now already sees the true form of the painting. Or he finally knows that both Eva and Demian (a mother and son) are inside him. This is the phase where Sinclair has changed into a man who is more enlightened.
