Taehyung represents the grown-up 18 years old (approx) Sinclair; he also represents the rebellious stage of Sinclair’s life. The intro from RM is:
“It was the first issue in the columns that had upheld my childhood, which every individual destroys before he can become himself. Such fissures and rents grow together again, healed and forgotten. But in the most secret recesses, they continue to live and bleed.”
In the beginning of the Stigma Short Film, we can see that V was scratching the name ‘Abraxas’, on an iron wall. Who is this Abraxas?
Abraxas is a God that Demian tells Sinclair about. Unlike the Christian God, who is only the God of good things, Abraxas is the God for both good and evil. One must worship him in order to attain a higher phase in life.
When Demian left Sinclair without even responding any of his letters, Sinclair decided to move out of his house and went to boarding school. He began to drink alcohol every day, even to the point it didn’t intoxicate him anymore. Once, he considered drinking was a crime but he was indifferent now. This what he means by a fissure (a crack) for a flaw in his perfect life. The boy of before who is studious and perfect is not the same anymore. Those little flaws that developed in him (like lying about stealing some apples, drinking alcohol, spending all day at the bar, etc.) didn’t heal and disappear, they continued to live and bleed instead, ruining Sinclair even more then he already is.
Sinclair’s life became so meaningless and he started to look after Demian again, at that time he also met Pistorius (portrayed by RM). After Demian, Pistorius is Sinclair’s (V’s) second mentor. All the idea in Sinclair’s head before were reserved to only him and Demian. But after he met Pistorius and tells him about Abraxas, he discovers that he’s not alone. As Pistorius knows more about Abraxas then Sinclair does, he becomes the latter’s mentor.
We already said that Sinclair (V) considers his parents to be the ultimate symbol of heaven. Throughout his childhood, he also thinks thinks that good people belong to heaven and bad people are in hell. This ideology changes when he meets Demian, right? Then, in HYYH, V kills his father while his mother is already dead. We can look back and see V crumpled the picture of him and his mom in the HYYH: Epilogue.
The killing of his parent (his dad) shows that V killed his precious worldview of how things were and finally accepts the world is as Demian says. This why during inquiry, the police officer asked V about his parents, then he answered, “I have no such thing.” We can say that V shows that he broke free from bonds like family and friends. Also, V looks away when the officer starts to drink because it reminds him of his father drinking alcohol.
Sinclair has also often mentioned that he loves holidays because they remind him of his childhood. He was amazed by his sister, who remained unchanged, while he changed so much. So when the lyrics say, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry my sister” it was obvious he’s letting her go, as well.
There is a moment when a puppy slips away from V’s embrace and a cage fall slowly from the top, locking V inside. The cage represents the world, so if V (Sinclair) wants to be free from the cage/world around him, he must break out of it.
Then there is the 4th video of the Short Films, called First Love. For this clip we have Suga as the main character. Like the other videos before, RM reads the narration which says,
“There are numerous ways in which God can make us lonely and lead us back to ourselves. This was the way he dealt with me at that time.”
For Suga, he represents the grown-up version of Sinclair. In this phase where he wants to go back to his childhood.
At the beginning of the short film, Suga stops in front of a shop. There is a pink light which is prominent, the color of unconditional love, romance, and compassion. It was reflecting on the ground and stopped at Suga’s feet; it’s attracting him, the place is calling for him.
“At that time i found a peculiar refuge by accident as people say. But there are no such accident. When someone who badly needs something finds it, it isn’t an accident that brings it his way but himself, his own desire and necessity leads him to it.” This paragraph was part of the novel, where Sinclair was walking down the street at night. He heard organ music playing from a small church. Sinclair tries to enter, but it was locked so he just sits in front of the church and listens to the music.
This was the time where Sinclair starts to behave very badly, he spends all his time at the bar and also gambling a lot. But one day he meets a really good friend and mentor (an organ player) called Pistorius. He will help Sinclair (Suga) to get rid of his gambling and drinking habits.
In the video, it was symbolized that Suga broke the glass of the shop with a rock. When he enters, the alarm goes off. The good realm, secured and always on guard, triggers a warning alarm when Suga, who belongs to the dark realm, enters it. He’s a stranger and he is not like them.
So what does the piano scene mean in the Short Film? The piano has been seen since the Danger music video, and was played by Jungkook at the beginning. It’s more like Jungkook (as small Sinclair) owns it. Now we see Suga playing the piano, which means that he was Jungkook once, and now he wants to go back to be the old him.
Suga was also acts drunk and reckless because that’s was Sinclair is like in the novel. He desperately wants to go back as his old self.
Next scene, we all see Suga walking on a empty, dark road. Then we can faintly hear a sound of shattering glass. The glass shattering is a transition from one phase of life to the next step, meaning that Suga’s (Sinclair) time is over and he is now growing to be more mature person.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a car appears, coming towards Suga. It looks like he was going to get run over by the car, but doesn’t. In here, the car represents our ability to move through life with the environment that we live in.
The car hits the shop, Suga became panicked and starts to run back towards the shop. We can see that the shop has became a mess and the piano has caught fire and is burning. His relationship with Jungkook has been destroyed; Jungkook also has gone. The fire symbolizes the transformation of Jungkook, who broke free from the egg and left Suga alone in the dark. He can’t do anything now, because he has lost his first love. Suga then started to step back slowly as he tried to forget about Jungkook.
