BTS Paid the Last Tribute to SHINee’s Jonghyun on His Funeral
The sad news about Jonghyun‘s passing in December 2017 is still considered a big loss for the K-pop industry. Not is only the fans of SHINee (Shawol) that mourned, but almost all the K-pop fandoms and the artists themselves. Jonghyun from SHINee was such a great musician with an outstanding personality too, K-pop really has failed him.
We all know that Jonghyun’s reason to end his life was because of the mental health issues that he was going through for years. Oddly enough, the dark and lonely feeling that Jonghyun once had has also been felt by other K-pop artists too. Although it seems bright, the K-pop world is actually hiding a painful truth for the stars.
Among the stars that shine really bright these days are BTS. The seven members of BTS attended Jonghyun’s funeral to show how they have lost one of the seniors that they respected a lot.

BTS and SHINee’s Friendship
Before we go further, you probably wonder why BTS attended SHINee’s Jonghyun funeral. Come to think of it, BTS and SHINee aren’t from the same company. BTS are under HYBE LABELS or Big Hit Entertainment, while SHINee are under SM Entertainment.
However, SHINee, which made a debut in 2008 have been an impactful group in the K-pop industry. There are a lot of K-pop artists that get inspired by SHINee’s music. BTS, who debuted years after SHINee in 2013, sometimes did covers of SHINee’s projects.
Not to mention that Jimin is one of the close friends of Taemin. Both of them are often hanging out together along with other K-pop stars such as EXO’s Kai and VIXX’s Ravi. Jimin and Taemin are known as great dancers of K-pop too.
Minho and Taehyung or V, both are the visuals of their group, they even starred in a drama together, namely Hwarang. They became closer despite their age gap. For your information, Minho was born in 1991, while Taehyung was born in 1995. The two of them look close even in the behind the scene of their drama.

BTS at SHINee’s Jonghyun’s Funeral
BTS and SHINee really have a close relationship as groups even though they come from different agencies. No wonder, when the news of Jonghyun’s death spread online on December 18th, 2017, BTS went to the funeral and paid respect to Jonghyun for the last time.
The burial was held days later, on December 21st, 2018, in which SHINee and Super Junior members held the coffin. Before that, Jonghyun’s family held three days of mourning in a funeral home. There, Jonghyun’s relatives, friends, as well as celebrity friends came to mourn. BTS members were among the celebrities that attended the funeral to pay their last tribute to Jonghyun.
BTS’s Thoughts on Suicide and Mental Health
As one of the juniors of SHINee, BTS admitted that they were shocked to learn the fact that Jonghyun passed away on December 18th, 2017, because of suicide. Debuting after SHINee made BTS often met SHINee, including Jonghyun, in music shows or festivals. RM said he sees Jonghyun as such a successful person.
RM also added that he couldn’t sleep at all after finding out the fact. “It was so shocking,” he said. Suga also said that it was shocking for him and everyone else too.

Suga, as one of the rappers of BTS, who is known to look calm also expressed his thoughts about this issue. “I really want to say that everyone in this world is lonely and sad,” said him. Suga hoped that there will be help for everyone that struggles with it so it will be easy for them to say out loud if something is hard, or even say it to someone that we miss. “I hope we can create an environment where we can ask for help.”
