BTS Postpones Military Enlistment to 2022
On December 1, 2020, the South Korean government made a new constitution that gave permission to K-pop idols like BTS to postpone their military enlistment. The South Korean government provides requirements for those K-pop idols who have achievements in culture and art fields. These requirements prevail over the oldest member of BTS, Kim Seok-jin.
Jin got a deferment for military enlistment when he was supposed to enlist in 2020 through 2021, but the government gave him two more years. This statement appeared after BTS’ first English single, “Dynamite,” managed to place at the top position on Billboard Hot 100 in the USA, making them the first K-pop group to do so.
BTS’ Jin’s Statement Regarding His Military Service Exemption
In every interview, if Jin is asked about military service, he says that they (BTS) want to perform their military service. It also happened when BTS held a press conference for their album BE in November 2020. Then, there was a question about BTS’ military enlistment, and the older member answered that he is always ready if one day he or other BTS members are called up to do their mandatory duty.

South Korea’s Government on BTS’ Military Service Exemption
Around 2019, there have been so many issues regarding the BTS military service exemption. Even in April 2021, rumors arose that BTS would be enlisting in the military in mid-2022. It started when there was an analyst of Leading Investment and Securities. Yoo Seong-man stated that BTS would enlist in 2022. Knowing the rumors, Big Hit Labels (now known as HYBE) gave their statement and asked fans to not make a conclusion about the unclear news.
Then, on September 9, 2021, there was a confluence held to discuss several amendments about the mandatory constitutions named “Military Service Act” by the subcommittee of the South Korean National Defense Commission.
They discussed the idea of BTS’ military service exemption which was proposed by Yoo Sang Hyun in June 2021. They said that it was possible for BTS to postpone their military enlistment until the age of 30. Even if the news or laws are validated, there’s a possibility that BTS will be exempt from military service.
Public Response to BTS’ Military Service Exemption Idea
The idea of BTS’ military service exemption definitely brings up the pros and cons among the public. Many people agree with the idea, especially ARMY. According to ARMY, their idols deserve to be exempt from military enlistment because they have contributed to the country through their music and achievements globally.
But, there are also ARMYs who are angry because the government made a long-winded decision.
RUN BTS Will Take a Break for 2 Years Due to the Military Service
RUN BTS is a program containing interesting BTS content for ARMY. On October 29, 2021, there was bad news about the variety show. Weverse announced that this program would take a break for 2 years, and it definitely made ARMYs shocked as well. However, some of them won’t believe it until the official announcement comes.
Some ARMY speculated that the news was related to the group’s military service in 2022, and this made ARMY curious about if it’s true or not.
