Boys Republic’s Sunwoo’s Interview
Sunwoo first debuted with his original name, Dabin, but later he changed it to Sunwoo when he was 22 years old. When asked about his reason for changing his name in an interview by media outlet Star News on November 22nd, 2014, it turned out the reason is more superstitious than we thought.
He shared that he changed his name due to a fortune teller’s advice. “I changed my name about a month ago… My parents are the type to frequently go get their fortune told, and they suggested that I change my name.”
When asked, “How does it feel to have your name changed?” he answered, “It still feels awkward… When someone calls me Sunwoo, I find it hard to look up at them… It feels like I’m starting anew… I will show a new image through this album.”
When the group first debuted, they sat down for an interview with Bugs to promote their debut song, “Party Rock.” Each of the members got questions and a turn to answer.
When asked about their thoughts about the debut, Sunwoo (who went by Dabin at that time), answered by sharing his feelings and excitement, “We prepared for a long period of time. Finally, we came out with good music and a great look for everyone. Please look forward to it!”
And when the next question came, to share what they did the night before their debut, Sunwoo shared, “I expected all the members to be very tired after the practice but we didn’t sleep until late at night”
Then, Sunwoo gave a special thanks to his best friend and closest member of the group, Suwoong. He shared, “Suwoong as a maknae is really a handful, but thank you for smiling along with me~”
He also shared with confidence when asked about his unique features, “I’m confident. Confidence to believe in anything. If you do not have complete confidence, I don’t think anything will end well.”
Dabin concluded the interview with thoughtful answers on how he would grow as an artist ten years from then and his common goal in Boys Republic.
He shared, that 10 years later, he would be “healing all the people that look at me, I want to grow as an artist.” And that “teamwork, makes a good team! We will show that this team is always perfect.”
