Background of “Baby Blue Love”

On April 19th, 2021, there was a report that Twice were in the last stages of preparing for their future comeback. It was also reported that they would do the next comeback in June 2021. The girls had plans to do the lead single’s music video filming on Jeju Island, South Korea.

The official announcement was released by JYP Entertainment (Twice’s agency) on May 3rd, 2021, and it stated that Twice would make their next comeback on June 11th, 2021. They also announced that at that time (June 11th), Twice would release the next EP album titled Taste of Love.

Story of “Baby Blue Love”

All of the five side tracks in this EP album were written by Twice members. The song “Baby Blue Love” was written by the oldest member, which is Nayeon. This song that Nayeon has made was composed by Karen Poole, Anne Judith Stokke Wik, Ronny Vidar Svendsen, and Nermin Harambasic, with Svendsen also participating as the arranger of this song. In an exclusive interview with CNN Indonesia, Nayeon once said that the song theme had already been determined from the very first time.

It made it more difficult for her to write a song based on the determined theme. She also said that if the song theme isn’t determined, she feels freer to get inspiration from many things. “It is harder to write a song if the song theme is predetermined,” she said. Nayeon also told the interviewer that this song was inspired by her favorite color, which is the baby blue color. This song is about a moment of falling in love with someone, and describing the love with the words “baby blue love.”
