What’s the Meaning of Selca Day?

Selca means selfie camera, or what we all call a selfie photo. Selca day is basically a certain day of the month when fans can take selfies/selcas with their favorite idols. Usually, selca day is celebrated on Twitter, but not only on Twitter, even on Tumblr, there are people who celebrate and actually it is really just a question of people’s varying preferences. Selca day has been done by fans in various countries. In addition, fans celebrate with a hashtag such as #armyselcadays, #selcaforjungkook, etc.

Army Selca Day!

As explained earlier, selca day means the day when fans upload and pose selfies like their favorite idols. This was also done by BTS fans who are called ARMY. This is a tradition among ARMYs, where every first Tuesday of the month they post photos of them and their idols. Usually, they post photos that are similar to pictures that BTS have taken or just for fun, they sometimes show off their creativity. Some members of ARMY revealed that the reason for posting this is that they thought that they should take photos or selfies every minute with courage and post them online so that after they would be proud and have more confidence.

They post their photos with a hashtag, and it will encourage them (ARMY) to do the same, then ARMY makes it trending on Twitter, they usually use the hashtag #ARMYSelcaDay. Another goal, other than making it a ‘tradition,’ is that they prove that their fandom is very compact and always proud of their idols. Not only that, but on Tuesday, there was also a selca carried out by ARMYs for Jungkook with the hashtag #SelcaForJungkook.

Not a few ARMY members participated in celebrating #ArmySelcaDay, which is evident from the photos uploaded by ARMY from various countries. For example, the photo above was uploaded by the twitter account @ARMYSelcas_Day seen an ARMY imitating the sweater worn by the oldest member of the BTS, Jin. In the photo, Jin used a pink sweater that is copied by an ARMY, the pose that the ARMY does isn’t similar but it is clear that she has the courage to upload her selca on social media.

The next best selca photo is of a woman imitating Taehyung, or what we better know as V’s pose. ARMY imitates Taehyung against a background of plain white walls, and sharp gaze, and poses that face each other or reflect from Taehyung’s pose.

Furthermore, this ARMY photo imitates Jhope by her putting a flower crown filter. She uploaded the photo with her own quote. The quote reads, “Thank’s for being my light, for being my most beautiful moment in life,” which means she thanked her idol for being light or inspiration and a part of her life.

The next best selca photo is where an ARMY imitates Suga’s cute pose, she imitated photo of Suga with a filter in one application where they would seem cute. The filters they wear are similar to animal characters, Suga uses a bear filter while that girl uses a cat filter with glasses.

Did BTS Know About It?

Like other K-Pop fans, ARMY also does the same thing by celebrating #ArmySelcaDay. However, do BTS members know about it? Actually, there was no response or recognition of the members about this selca day, but without us knowing it, BTS is actually monitoring the activities of the fans. What’s more, the group’s maknae once said that he always saw what ARMY wrote, Jhope and Suga often read comments from fans and even their haters. So, even without an acknowledgment, BTS already knows about this, especially the selca day for K-Pop fans which is a commonplace.
