The Actor, Won Ki-joon

If you are a fan of Korean dramas and movies, you must know that some of them are influenced by Korean historical and period dramas. There are a lot of amazing historical period dramas, which not only entertain us by their culture and background but also have a smooth and interesting storyline. One of the most popular among those is Jumong. A 2006 historical romance drama considered a Korean Wave (Hallyu). It tells the story of the life of Jumong, founder of the kingdom of Goguryeo. Not many details have been found in the historical records about Jumong, so a lot of the series is fictionalized. The fantastic elements surrounding the original Jumong legend (such as those concerning his birth) have been replaced with events more grounded in reality. But it doesn’t make Jumong become less popular, it even extended production to episode 81, when the original plan was to only film 60 episodes. The growing popularity of the drama has also made the cast popular as well. The role Won Ki-joon played in the drama was that of Prince Youngpo. For his role in Jumong, Won Ki-joon won his first award at the 2006 MBC Drama Awards in the Best New Actor category.
