All About Kim Hwan-hee: Height, Age, Movies, and TV Shows

Kim Hwan-hee and Suho For Middle School Girl A

On last June 4, a press conference of Middle School Girl A was held. The movie starred EXO’s Suho, Kim Hwan-hee, Lee Jong-hyuk, Jung Da-bin, and more.

Student A (the other name of Middle School Girl A) is a film adaptation of a webtoon, and is about a female student named Mi Rae (Kim Hwan-hee) who loves gaming and is a talented writer, but has very low self-esteem. She was hurt by the first two friends she ever made, Baek Hab (Jung Da-bin) and Tae Yang (Yoo Jae-sang), but is able to begin healing with the help of Jae Hee (Suho).

Director Lee Kyung-seob said, “In the original webtoon, Mi Rae narrates her inner thoughts. The movie doesn’t do that, but I thought it was important for Mi Rae to reveal her thoughts and feelings. We tried to show fantasy in the beginning of the movie, and then the growth of [Mi Rae] in the second half. I hope that overall, the film isn’t seen as just the story of a girl’s growth.

Suho, as the co star of Kim, has a quite long gap year. Kim was born in 2002, is 11 years his junior. He said, “I didn’t feel any generational gap. Kim Hwan Hee is very mature and thoughtful, so communication was easy. Actually, I think it was even easier because I’m immature. There were some times when we were eating together that I wouldn’t understand what she was saying, but filming was a lot of fun.

Revealing his thoughts after seeing the movie for the first time, he also said, “I wonder if I shouldn’t have been more happy and upbeat [in the movie.] But I thought a lot about the reasons behind Jae Hee’s quirky actions. I didn’t think that his odd behavior or his funny expressions were without reason, so I worked hard to analyze those emotions.

After all, Suho was also a high schooler back then. Even though he was a trainee, he was also just like any normal students which experienced a period of “the wind seems to be blow quickly and water seems to flow in a frightening way.”

The EXO leader elaborated, “I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Then, I entered SM as a trainee in my third year of middle school, and I set my dreams on being a singer as well as acting. I actually think I was able to focus myself and my goals at a relatively faster pace compared to others.” He added, “I don’t think I was the kind of student that caused trouble, even in my teens.”

In turn, Kim Hwan-hee expressed, “I was really happy that I could act with him. I’m introverted, so I’m not good at starting conversations with someone I just met. However, he would approach me first. He would relieve the awkward atmosphere and crack jokes. There are so many moments that I’m thankful for.

The young actress also discussed how she thinks acting has become more difficult since her breakout role in 2016 film The Wailing. She explained the film helped her discover a wider spectrum of emotions, but that in turn made it more difficult for her to decide how to portray certain scenes or lines. “That’s why I had to study my role more,” Kim Hwan-hee commented. “From now on, I think that it would be good to act as if I have experienced those emotions.”

All of these answers were taken when Suho and Kim did a High Cut magazine photo shoot. You can check out the pictures below!
