In regards to his career, Gong Yoo has amazed his viewers with his acting in dramas and movies countless times. He started his acting career with the role of Hwang Tae Young in a drama called School 4 in the year 2001 and impressed everyone with his great ability to act alongside other actors. Then, Gong Yoo became a major Hallyu star after the success of the drama The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince (2007), the movie Train to Busan (2016), the drama Goblin (2017), and other various projects which secured his position as one of the most internationally recognizable actors working in the South Korean entertainment industry today.

He rose to international stardom when he starred in the 2016 horror-thriller Train to Busan, which tells the story of a group of terrified passengers on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched train ride during a national outbreak of a mysterious virus. Train to Busan was directed by Yeon Sang Ho, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and went on to set a record for being the first Korean movie of the year to register over 10 million theater-goers. The film marks the reunion of Gong Yoo and Jung Yoo Mi as their first movie together since The Crucible.

Gong Yoo’s Drama List


His best role is none other than acting as the eponymous character in the tvN fantasy romance drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (2016-2017). Known internationally as simply Goblin, the show was a major hit and regularly topped cable television viewership ratings in South Korea with the series finale documenting an 18.680% audience share, the second highest rated episode in the history of Korean television after Reply 1988 (2015-2016). It has since come to be regarded as a cultural phenomenon in South Korea.
