Ahn Hyo-seop’s Pre-Debut Era
Not many know that Ahn Hyo-seop actually lived for a while in Toronto, Canada, back when he was only 17 years old with his family and obtained Canadian citizenship. Life before debuting as an actor went through as a teenager who was undergoing the education. After that, he enrolled as a student at Kookmin University, to be precise, in the major Department of International Business.
After returning to South Korea, Ahn Hyo-seop suddenly scouted by one of the Big 3 agencies, JYP Entertainment, and became a trainee. Not many people know that Ahn Hyo-seop has previously experienced a trainee period and has the opportunity to debut immediately as a member of GOT7. However, due to many considerations after that, Ahn Hyo-seop decided to take another opportunity than to debut as an idol or even a GOT7 member.
Ahn Hyo-seop has the ability to play the violin and the piano. After deciding to leave JYP Entertainment, he finally joined Starhaus Entertainment and debuted with One O One on October 1, 2015, with Love You. Even though it was less well-known when promoting with One O One, the promotion carried out by the group is arguably quite active. When he debuted in this group, Ahn Hyo-seop used his stage name as Paul Ahn.
One O One also turns out to have several members who are now famous as actors, such as Kwak Si-yang, Song Won-suk, and Kwon Do-hyun. Unfortunately, One O One is reported to have been disbanded since January 2019 because they are no longer actively promoting.
Ahn Hyo-seop’s Debut And His Career Journey
Early in his acting career, Ahn Hyo-seop appeared and debuted in the K-Drama titled ‘Splash Splash Love’ that was aired in MBC in 2015 as Park Yeon or Che Ah-jin. The romantic comedy genre, ‘Splash Splash Love’ tells the story of Jang Dan-bi, who doesn’t like maths lessons, but one rainy day, she is thrown into the Joseon era and the one who can save her life from punishment is math.
Dan-bi is described as a student who does not pass all the university entrance tests. The only hope remains the SAT. But on the day of the test, she was so scared to face it that she finally ran away and arrived at the playground. It was raining hard at that time. When Dan-bi looked down at the puddle of water, slowly, the shadow in the puddle changed.
Out of curiosity, Dan-bi tried to dip a foot in there, but it turned out to be broken inside. At first, Dan-bi was scared. But because she really wanted to go far away, she finally dared to jump into the puddle. And she arrived in the Joseon era, just as the elders and kings were having a ceremony to ask for rain because it had been three years of drought.
Due to a language misunderstanding, when Dan-bi said she is a student, it turned out that in the Joseon era, gosam meant a student who was castrated, so she was mistaken as a boy. Because she is considered a fraud, she is chased and will be punished. Yoon Doo-joon plays King Lee Doo. The audience of ‘Let’s Eat and Let’s Eat Season 2’ must have memorized their faces very well.
This king believed that mathematics and natural sciences would be the solution for his country. Of course, this new thinking was opposed by conventional elders.
Dan-bi was caught by the king’s loyal guard, played by Ahn Hyo-seop, and brought straight to the king. For fear of being punished, Dan-bi admits she’s a mathematician. Fortunately, the problem the king is trying to solve is Pythagoras, and Dan-bi can solve it in a few seconds. This ability amazes the king and asks Dan-bi to teach him mathematics secretly. Dan-bi also doesn’t admit to being a girl because she feels much safer disguising herself.
Ahn Hyo-seop has become increasingly known since starring in the drama ‘dr. Romantic 2’. His appearance as Seo Woo-jin in the drama managed to steal the public’s attention. The 25-year-old actor admits that he is now getting many new fans.
Even though his name has now been known to many audiences, Ahn Hyo-seop was apparently banned by his parents from entering the entertainment world. Having siblings who work as pharmacists and accountants, the choice to become an actor might sound extreme to Ahn Hyo-seop’s parents.
Ahn Hyo-seop admitted that his parents gave him a warning when he decided to become an actor. Being an actor is not easy. The road to being successful and getting public recognition is not straight and smooth. Many small actors have to fight hard to make ends meet. “My parents have a lot of anticipation from me. I think it’s because my brother is a pharmacist and my older sister is an accountant,” Ahn Hyo-seop said.
Ahn Hyo-seop started his career in 2015 through the drama ‘Splash Splash Love’. For about two years, he only got a small role. Then since playing in the drama ‘Still 17’, Ahn Hyo-seop began to get attention. Since then, Ahn Hyo-seop has started to appear in many dramas, such as ‘Top Management’, ‘Abyss’ and ‘Dr. Romantic 2’.
