Since their debut in 2020, Aespa immediately got a lot of attention from the public because of their vocals, visuals, and also songs. Then, they made their 3rd comeback with Savage on October 5th, 2021. During this era, SM Entertainment uploaded a behind-the-scenes video of the “Savage” music video filming.

The agency uploaded a video on YouTube, and the public became aware of what Giselle did. The public noticed that Giselle said the N-word during her lip sync for SZA’s “Love Glamour” in the middle of Aespa’s photoshoot session for “Savage”. In the video, Giselle leans over and says the N-word which is a very sensitive issue and is considered racist.

The video has been watched over 1.5 million times and the controversy spread widely, so SM Entertainment decided to take action by deleting the video to protect Giselle. However, even though the video has been deleted, the problem still exists.

After being condemned and criticized, Giselle finally posted an apology letter on Aespa’s official Twitter (@aespa_official). On November 25th, 2021, Giselle apologized to the public for the controversy that befell her and what she said. So, here’s Giselle’s apology letter:

“Hello, this is GISELLE.

I would like to apologize for mouthing the wrongful word from the lyrics of the song that was playing on-site. I had no intentions of doing it with any purpose and got carried away when one of my favorite artist’s songs was played. I sincerely apologize.”

Next, she will learn and be more conscious of her actions.
