Ra Mi Ran’s Career

Before making her film debut in Lady Vengeance (2005), Ra Mi-ran spent years acting in the theater. When she began acting in movies, she appeared in more than 40 films, but didn’t receive much public praise or recognition until she starred in Dancing Queen (2012), with one review calling her performance a “standout” in the role as the best friend and hairdresser of the protagonist.

She a very productive supporting actress, especially in Lee Joon-ik’s Hope (2013), where her role as a young mother won Best Supporting Actress at the 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards; as well as The Himalaya (2015), for which she won Best Supporting Actress at the 52nd Paeksang Art Awards. She was also cast as a thief in a hit cable drama series, Balas 1988 (2015).

Ra has also been praised for her leading role as a North Korean defector in the indie Dance City Jeon Kyu-hwan (2011), with Variety calling it “stunning” and “outstanding performance.”  She also played one of three leads in the black-comedy drama Avengers Social Club, which attracted high ratings.
