Actor Cha In-ha Found Dead

Cited from various sources, it is reported that rookie South Korean actor Cha In-ha was found dead on Tuesday, December 2, 2019, adding to the latest string of deaths that have rocked the Korean entertainment industry. A police official said that the cause of Cha’s death was not immediately known.

Cha’s career was on a track to incredible success. He had been performing professionally since 2017, and his newest project, a TV series, debuted earlier this month. Cha, whose last name was Lee Jae-ho, made his screen-acting debut in 2017 in the short film You, Deep Inside of Me, and was a member of the entertainment company Fantagio’s actor group, Surprise U.

Cha isn’t a K-pop star, but his early acting career is not dissimilar to how many K-pop performers find fame. He was chosen by entertainment company Fantagio to become part of a group, but an acting group, as opposed to a boy-band. The group was called Surprise U, and consisted of Kim Hyun-seo, Yoon Jung-hyuk, Eun Hae-sung, Ji Gun-woo, and Cha. It was created and managed by Fantagio, and they debuted in a showcase in 2017. The members were all singers, dancers, and actors, and they performed live and in short films.

Cha went from Surprise U to roles in Korean films and TV shows. He made appearances on Wok of Love and Temperature of Love, as well as the movie You, Deep Inside Me before landing a recurring role on Clean with Passion for Now. From there, he went on to do a part on The Banker. His latest role was on a TV rom-com called Love With Flaws, which debuted on Korean television earlier this month and stars actor Ahn Jae-hyun and actress Oh Yeon-seo

The news about Cha comes after the recent deaths of two prominent female K-pop idols. On November 24, 2019, 28-year-old Goo Hara was found dead in her Seoul home, while Sulli, 25, reportedly ended her life in October. Before her death, Sulli had spoken out about cyber-bullying and the backlash she faced over her lifestyle.

The string of untimely deaths has sparked conversations in the country about the intense pressure and personal attacks Korean celebrities face. While the K-pop industry projects a wholesome image on stage and on screen, it has been rocked by recent reports of sexual abuse, as well as by a series of apparent suicides.

Reason Behind His Death

Police in South Korea said on Wednesday, December 3, 2019, that the cause of actor-singer Cha In-ha’s death was still not known, a day after the 27-year-old was found dead at his home. His death is incredibly mysterious, and no one is sharing any details about what might have happened.

MSN also reports that police announced on December 4, 2019, that they will not conduct a post-mortem investigation of Cha. The police statement said: “We do not have any specific details to share regarding Cha In Ha’s passing. We will not be performing an autopsy, per his family’s wishes. No will or final message was discovered at his home. We do not have any information to give regarding his cause of death.”

The BBC notes that Fantagio also deferred to the actor’s family’s wish for privacy, saying that the funeral would be a family affair.

The circumstances around Cha’s death are being kept tightly under wraps by his agency, as well as his family, but that doesn’t stop the speculation that often arises after a young person dies unexpectedly. Cha’s agency was quick to ask fans not to speculate on his cause of death.

“We earnestly ask for rumors to not be spread and for speculative reports to not be released in order for his family, who is experiencing greater sadness more than anyone due to the sudden sad news, to send him away peacefully,” Fantagio wrote in a statement that was reported by the BBC.

Cha In-ha was recently cast in a Korean television series called Love with Flaws on MBC. The show premiered on November 27, 2019, just days before the young actor’s sudden death. In-ha had a supporting role in the series, which stars Ahn Jae-hyun and Oh Yeon-seo. In the drama, Cha in-ha portrayed Oh Yeon-seo’s second older brother.

The Love with Flaws production team issued a statement after Cha’s death, confirming that his scenes would broadcast as planned. The team described In-ha as an actor who “worked more passionately than anyone during the drama filming” and had a “shining presence” on the set.

His family, according to the producers, have asked for his scenes in the show to be retained, reported the Soompi portal.

They do not want the efforts of the actor, who debuted two years ago as a member of an acting group called Surprise U, to go to waste.

His Love with Flaws co-worker, Oh Yeon-seo, posted her tribute to Cha, writing, “It’s cold… Be careful on your way. Thank you for being my older brother.”
