Is 2PM Going to Disband? Check Out Their Latest Comeback, Here!

Jun.K: Enlistment and Achievement

The second member to enlist was Jun.K. On May 8th, 2018, JYP released an official announcement that Jun.K would start enlisting later that day. Just like Taecyeon, he wished to enlist quietly so the location and time were not revealed. However, he wrote a letter to his fans through the official site. He mentioned his past drunk driving controversy in February 2018 and apologized for disappointing people around him. He also expressed his regret and shared about how he felt when he stood on stage during his fourth solo concert not long after the incident. “The moment I saw you all, my heart really hurt. I felt really hurt and apologetic. It’s so great to be able to be together, and I should have been more thankful for that preciousness…” he wrote. He apologized again for not consoling the fans’ hurt feelings before enlisting. You can read the full letter here.

After his training finished, he was awarded the honor of the commander as he got an outstanding overall score among all the trainees. 2PM posted a picture of his achievement on his Instagram.

Jun.K also wrote a long letter to fans before he started the real military. He shared about his achievements and performance during training. He even mentioned about the members sending him letters, except Chansung who, he said, was busy and Nichkhun who, he said again, was abroad so he would understand. Read the full letter here.

His achievement doesn’t really stop at the training center as he has been assigned to Special Warfare Command due to his great performance. It was reported by Soompi on June 3rd, 2019. 2PM’s official Instagram also posted a picture of him and the achievement.

Being awarded such achievement is not easy and is considered as a success of being a soldier. The awarded shall be excellent in shooting, physical endurance, first aid, vigilance, CBR training mental endurance, and combat skills. He is now still serving in the military.

Nichkhun: Drama Appearance, Attending BLACKPINK’s Concert, Holding Solo Concert

It was reported that Nichkhun would appear in tvN’s drama Arthdal Chronicles starred by other actors like Song Joong-ki and Jang Dong-gun in June 2019. According to Soompi, he plays the role of Rottip, a Neanderthal who survived during Ta Gon’s (Jang Dong-gun) “Great Hunt of the Neanderthals.” We can see a much different look of Nichkhun and his acting through the drama.

On July 14th, Nichkhun uploaded a photo of himself and Lisa on his Instagram. He apparently attended BLACKPINK’s concert in Bangkok. He also wrote a supportive message for his fellow Thai idol-friend.

He has just held his first solo concert titled Home in his hometown, Bangkok. The concert was held on July 26th at the Chaengwattana Hall, Centralplaza Chaengwattana. He, who usually plays piano and keyboard, showed off his skill in playing the guitar at the concert. He uploaded several photos of the concert through his Instagram recently.

Prior to his concert in Bangkok, he held his solo concert in Korea and Japan. His fellow members like Taecyeon, Junho, and Chansung also attended his concert to show him their support.

Wooyoung: Enlistment

Wooyoung is the third member who started enlisting on July 9th, 2018. According to Soompi, the artist entered the 21st Infantry Division at 2 p.m. KST on that day. Previously, the date was confirmed by the agency on June 29th and shared Wooyoung’s wish to enlist quietly. He was sent off by his family and 2PM members. Their official Twitter posted a picture of him with his haircut prior to his enlistment on that day with a caption, “We don’t have to say much! 2PM’s crazy and talented boy, return safely!!”

After five weeks of training, Soompi reported that Wooyoung has successfully graduated from the basic military training in a leadership role. On August 14th, the group also posted a picture of him on Instagram regarding his graduation. He has graduated as the company commander!

Not only that, but they also posted a photo of Wooyoung together with Chansung and Junho who came to his graduation ceremony.

As cited by Soompi, they said that Junho, who finished his practice late at night and felt exhausted, managed to wake up early to meet Wooyoung. A similar thing happened to Chansung who couldn’t sleep at all because of his busy schedule but was still excited to come. “Wooyoung said he bit his lips to hold back his tears when he saw Junho and Chansung’s faces during the ceremony,” they wrote. The trio ate, chatted, and laughed together before parting and saying goodbye to each other sadly. Currently, Wooyoung is still serving in the military and is expected to be discharged next year.

Junho: Drama and Movie Appearance, Enlistment

Junho has been spreading his wings into acting. This year, he was cast in the Korean drama series Confession. He plays the main character Choi Do-hyun, a lawyer who wants to find the truth and clear his father’s name after he has been wrongly accused and received a death penalty. The drama aired from March 23rd until May 12th, 2019, at tvN.

Not only in a drama, but it was reported that the artist also starred in a Korean film titled Homme Fatele (also known as Gibang Bachelor). The movie itself takes a historical setting with comedy that tells the story of Huh Saek (Junho), the first male courtesan of the Joseon dynasty who can win any woman’s heart, and Hae Won (Jung So-min), a beautiful woman who has a progressive mindset to find true love.

On May 13th, 2019, the official teaser images were dropped. Junho can be seen wearing a blue silk robe while passionately plucking the strings of gayageum (Korean traditional instrument). The movie set its premiere in June.

On May 28th, according to Soompi, JYP released an official announcement regarding Junho’s enlistment. First, they confirmed about Junho’s enlistment on May 30th. They also stated that Junho has injured his right shoulder during 2PM’s promotion in the past. Even though he has undergone surgery and rehabilitation treatment, it was not well developed so he took prescribed painkillers when needed. Due to his injury, he received Grade 4 in the Military Manpower Administration’s physical examination. Therefore, he was judged unfit for an active duty so he would enlist as a public service worker. He is now still serving in the military. |

Chansung: Enlistment

On May 31st, JYP released an announcement regarding Chansung’s enlistment. Chansung is the last 2PM member who will start enlisting. They said that the artist would start his enlistment on June 11th but the location and time would not be revealed as he wished to enlist quietly. On June 11th, the artist finally started his military service through the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center in Yeongcheon, Gyeonggi Province.

As cited by Soompi, 2PM’s official Twitter posted a picture of Chansung with Taecyeon, Jun.K, and Nichkhun who came to send him off. The post wished Chansung to return safely and asked the fans to wait without crying. The post also included a caption about the members, “The oldest hyung took a leave from the army to see [Chansung] off, the second oldest hyung woke up in the middle of the night due to the thought that the maknae is leaving, and the third oldest hyung has returned to the army to see the maknae‘s face less than one month since his own military discharge.”

Nichkhun also posted a picture of the boys on his Instagram with a caption, “Maknae, return safely~~~ I can’t give you the energy of the military like the other members, but instead I’ll cheer you on~ Fighting!!!”

A month after Chansung’s enlistment, Taecyeon paid a visit to the maknae on July 18th, right on his graduation ceremony. It was reported that the maknae broke a huge smile the moment he saw Taecyeon and hugged him!

Recently, on July 31st, the agency stated that Chansung has become an assistant instructor in the army for new recruits at the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, following Taecyeon’s footsteps. The artist is expected to be discharged on January 5th, 2021.

From all the information presented above, we can conclude that 2PM is rather on hiatus instead of disbanding. As Nichkhun also stated, according to Soompi, when he was a guest in SBS’ LoveFM’s Song Eun-yi and Kim Sook’s Unni’s Radio last March. When asked about 2PM’s album release in the future, he answered, “[An album] will be released. We promised each other. For the members to be discharged from the military, I think it’ll be 2021 at the earliest. That’s because Junho and Chansung haven’t enlisted yet. But [we’ll] release [an album] for sure. When we watch other people’s performances, we say things like, ‘Let’s also do this.’” In other words, we will still see 2PM on the stage together in the future.

Let’s all keep supporting them and wait for them to be together again in the future!
