“The game Bok Bul Bok” (복불복), which can be translated as “lottery game or luck” is often used as a method to determine who should sleep outside or who will get food. The game starts by throwing a game of rock-paper-scissors, or some other typical game, like “Kung Kung Ta” (쿵쿵따; word connecting game, but the word that is allowed is a word that has no meaning). Winners are entitled to choose food/drinks in advance provided by the production team. A glimpse of food/drinks that look normal, but some of them have a strange taste, for example, fish extract (까나리 액젓) made like coffee, buns containing wasabi, or extra spicy sauce that looks like tomato sauce. If the less fortunate member chooses “strange food,” and does not succeed in spending it, then the member is deemed to be defeated. From this game, a unique 1N2D slogan appeared, namely, “Forever Bok Bul Bok, Origin Is Not Me.” Until now, the Bok Bul Bok game has become one of the main features of 1N2D.
Sleeping Inside and Outside
This concept was first introduced on a trip to Andong, North Gyeongsang when members were competing as Youth Teams and Old Teams to determine their sleeping location. The Old Team won at the Jegi competition (제기 차기), but the Youth Team insisted on getting a second chance. For this reason, the same game was played individually, the challenger who had won in the game could sleep inside, but the losing challenger must sleep “outside” (sleeping without a tent, only on a mat or a sleeping bag).
Song for Resurrection and Morning Missions
This song is played in the morning and is used to wake members up and as a sign of the start of the morning mission. The trot song titled “Don’t Give Up” or “There is a Snake,” sung by Kim Hye-yeon, was the first song to be used. This song’s lyrics are about snakes and it has repetitive lyrics and melodies. In the broadcast from February 10th, 2008, the song was played in a remix version. On the February 24th, 2008, broadcast, a song titled “Bangun” was used, and since March 23rd, 2008, the song that was played was the song of the members combined with various sounds in the melody. The classic example is Lee Seung-gi’s song titled “Unspoken Words” (“하지 못한 말”) combined with Kang Ho-dong’s “Seung-Gi yah” cry.
The morning mission is done to determine who is having breakfast. Ordinary missions include looking for flags or certain objects, hide and seek, and others.
Members joke that free travel is done when the production team runs out of ideas or is lazy. On this trip, a chairman was chosen to determine the concept and location of the trip. The chosen chairman is usually worried during the trip because of the heavy burden of responsibility to ensure that the trip is pleasant and that there is enough material to air. The first chairman of the trip was Eun Ji-won, which was carried out after Lee Su-geun’s wedding and located on the Nanji Camp Site, near the Han River, Seoul. The second trip was chaired by MC Mong, who then appointed Lee Seung-gi to replace him because the burden was too heavy. Lee Su-geun was chosen on the third trip when the trip to Jeju Island was canceled due to bad weather.
Challenging the Production Team
On May 31st, 2009, members challenged the production team on-screen, with guaranteed consumption from the production team: if members were to win, they could have dinner, sleep inside, and the production team must sleep outside. Unfortunately, the members lost their game and the production team got their dinner. On September 27th, 2009, members returned to challenge the production team. This time, if the production team were to lose, all team members, including managers and stylists, must sleep outside. With a little luck, the members won this challenge. On the July 20th, 2014 broadcast, 1N2D members fled and hid from the production team until the production team agreed to fulfill their request.
