Who Is 2NE1?
2NE1 was considered one of the most successful and popular girl groups in South Korea. The group’s name was initially announced as “21”, however, due to the discovery of a singer with the same name, the group was quickly renamed “2NE1”. Formed by YG Entertainment in 2009, the group was composed of Bom, Dara, CL, and Minzy.
2NE1 was known for their unique and edgy style, therefore they garnered a strong reaction from fans around the world. Their first extended play, 2NE1 (2009), was received well and spawned the hits “Fire” and “I Don’t Care“, one of the biggest singles of 2009. It earned 2NE1 many awards and nominations.
But the fate of 2NE1, who have been on an indefinte hiatus since 2014, has been hanging precariously for quite some time after an extremely controversial ‘drug scandal’ was revealed to the public. As of May 2016, 2NE1’s exclusive contract with YG was over and seeing as Minzy was longer able to continue with the group, YG, along with the members, have decided to officially disband 2NE1 after many discussions.

Park Bom‘s completely unexpected appearance at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) alongside her fellow 2NE1 members has been the ultimate talk of the town. The comments towards the 2NE1 members were overwhelmingly negative when the rest of the 2NE1 members came on stage after CL‘s solo performance. Not only critical towards Park Bom, but the other members too.
Comments in an article from the Korean news outlet Newsen reporting on 2NE1’s comeback were debilitating, as most focused on Bom and her drug situation. Back in 2014, it was announced that Bom went into self-reflection when news was reported she trafficked drugs when she was younger. Apparently, one year of self-reflection is not enough for the said Koreans whom commented.
